What am I reading?

The New Era of Social Media Isn’t About Feeds – If you’ve been to any of my trainings in the last six month you’ve heard me talk about this a bit, specifically as it relates to Stories as a format but this does a great job of expanding on this concept

How to increase transparency for political ads on social media – Your must read of the month

Let’s Talk About the Algorithm– Great interview with a former design lead at Instagram about the Instagram Alogrithm (aka Ansel)

Does Saying “Link in Bio” Affect Your Instagram Post Performance? (Experiment)– Get asked about this all the time so here’s some data

Who Really Writes Twitter’s ‘Trending’ Summaries- Some interesting things to know about how trending topics happen on Twitter

Updated: VA Becomes 2nd state with consumer data protection law – Not necessarily only social media related but still important to know and understand- the longer it takes for anything (if ever) to move on this nationally, states are more and more taking it into their own hands and it’s gonna get messy for digital practitioners

New Tools of Interest

Organiz– New tool for organizing tweet storms

Platform Updates

Facebook

Facebook is now letting users and pages turn off comments on posts (it’s unclear if this is limited to Australia or global) but I think this is a horrible idea- it’s social media- if all you’re going to do is broadcast stuff go post it on your website

It was only a matter of time before stickers became an ad unit– but will it be a placement available for political ads?

Raise your hand if you predicted the coming importance of Audio and Facebook and said they’d build a “clubhouse” immediately after Clubhouse was introduced to the world

🙋

In testing: Green Screen Creation option for Stories

Instagram

ICYMI Instagram has now released the ability to go live with up to 3 other people

Yes please(but only if editable because AI is horrible at spelling people’s names correctly)

Coming soon: Stories Drafts (I’d bet that means the ability to schedule stories may also be on its way finally)

Twitter

YouTube

YT is experimenting with doing away with publicly displaying down votes on videos– what took them so long?
