Political Social Grab Bag

What am I thinking about?

Like many of you I’ve been thinking a lot about Bluesky recently and my thoughts are too long for this space so I put it all into a post you can read and refer back to

By the time you read this I’ll be on my way out of the country for a much needed vacation before diving back into the thick of things in January. Have a great holiday month and be sure to take care of you, whatever that looks like for you!

Trainings & Webinar Alerts

We’ve announced our first training of 2024!

Digital Analytics: Using Data to Win via zoom Feb 25 & 26

Look for more announcements in our January newsletter and throughout January

What am I reading?

Is the red heart emoji MAGA?: Interesting dive into the politicization of emojis

Breaking up with antisocial media: Just read this one from our friend Evan Sutton

New Tools of Interest

Openvibe: Another tool to help manage.the fediverse platforms all in one place..this one specifically supports Bluesky, Mastodon and Threads

Particle: Bills itself as “AI powered new that helps you understand more, faster” …I’m told that it remind people of Artifact (RIP) but at the moment there is no android version of the app so I haven’t been able to use it myself

Platform Updates

Meta Platforms

Facebook: New primary metric is “Views” (tldr version: Views are impressions NOT reach)

Facebook: Exclusions in Saved Audiences and Detailed Targeting for ads have gone away (see my last reply to this post for a workaround suggestion) (h/t Josh Klemmons

Facebook: Story Insights have started to rollout at last

Instagram: The option to follow hashtags is going away

Instagram: Now there is an easier way to remove inactive profiles from your followers

Instagram: There is now access to Professional Dashboard on the web interface

Threads: The rollout of custom feeds has begun (note: this article also contains how to instructions)

Threads really wants to be Bluesky lolsob but unless it’s going to let us permanently default to real time reverse chronological order it never will be and imho that’s not a bad thing
