What Am I Thinking About

How is it 2022 already? I don’t understand.

2022 is gearing up to be a big training year and fsm willing a return to at least occasional in person trainings which as always leads me back to thinking about community and how create community online in an environment where the in person aspect is so iffy. To that end I’m excited to share that this week I will be creating a Twitter Community (think Twitter’s version of Facebook Groups) for Digital Strategists! If you’d like to be invited the community hit me up with a tweet or DM on Twitter (@Spedwybabs) and when I finish setting it up I’ll invite you.

I can’t wait to play with this new tool for online community building and hope more platforms will also spend time developing and improving our community building tools.

What am I reading?

EU Pushes to Limit How Tech Companies Target Political Ads- The world of political ads is going to get even messier in 2022 (see below for Jan 19 changes) and I think we need to keep an eye on what’s going on in Europe regulation around this as what is required there could well get pushed onto us in the US by the tech companies themselves…these could also inform any regulation that eventually sees the light of day here in the US

How political advertisers skirted Facebook’s rules in 2020- and got away with it-Yep 2022 is gonna be rocky in FB Ad world

Platform Updates

Facebook

ICYMI: Starting January 19 Facebook is going to be removing a whole bunch of interest related targeting keywords …how much will this impact our political advertising? A lot but i don’t think it’s fatal. I’ve been doing some experimenting pretending it’s already happened and hope to write up my findings in the next few days so stay tuned!
