What am I reading?

How Americans Navigate Politics on TikTok, X, Facebook and Instagram – Just read this report from Pew Research Center

It’s 2024. ManChild Rules Ex. And the Political World is Still Addicted. – What say you?

Instagram Chief Shares Insights Into Its Algorithm, Creator Monetization and More – Key takeway: Big metric to follow is Shares Per Reach (and yes we added this to the tracking sheet!) – think of it as a mini conversion to social action for IG specifically

Brands Embracing Ad-Free Features on Social Media – Read this Thread on Threads…then remember our friendly comments management dashboard CSEmpathy and use it to simplify comments management

New Tools of Interest

Bridgy Fed: Fairly easy to use way to to connect Bluesky and Mastodon (took me less than 5 min to set up) and free

Platform Updates

Meta Platforms

Threads and Instagram: The day before the debate the political content opt in/opt out option turned into a huge bug that has now been fixed

Threads: Now rolling out side swiping to signal interest

Facebook: Farewell GB Group Content Moderators

Instagram: New Inspiration Tab in your professional dashboard (must be a creator or business profile)

Messenger: Communities (broadcast channels on Messenger) that are not tied to Facebook Groups

Threads: Now available: type : +word at add emoji (desktop only for now)

Facebook Ads: Say goodbye to Dynamic Creative and hello to Flexible ad format

Threads: API has finally launched– now join me in hoping that Analytics are next

Fediverse

The Threads fediverse integration took another big step forward – you can now see the replies to your posts in Threads instead of bouncing to the other platforms

Other Platforms

Twitter: Analytics are now hidden behind the paywall so without paying the only way to get analytics is tweet by tweet or pay for analytics dashboard of some kind and soon Live streaming will also be behind the paywall

Linked: The latest platform to want to be TikTok <sigh>

YouTube: A/B Testing for thumbnails is now rolling out to creators with access to advanced features- here’s hoping it eventually rolls out to everyone

Twitter: Likes are now private

TikTok: You can now add captions as video is edited

LinkedIn: Now available- Premium Company Pages

LinkedIn: AI Summaries of Posts now rolling out (anyone else roll their eyes at this one?)

TikTok: Now in testing: Links in videos (don’t usually include tests here but this is interesting and could be game changing to how we use TikTok to educate people about issues and potentially mobilize in a new way on the app)

Don’t Try This At Home
