New Tools of Interest

Coming soon- “Barcelona” Meta’s Twitter clone- likely by end of summer

Platform Updates

Facebook

The blending of algorithm and AI on the FB Newsfeed continues…currently at 20% AI it’s expected to double in the next few months

If you admin a FB page that doesn’t yet have the “new” page experience…June 5 is the newly announced date when everyone will be forced into it, want it or not

Big *and annoying* change to FB Ad Location targeting…the dropdown menu to choose to target only the people who live in the geograhic area you are targeting is gone (RIP my ads when I travel)

Changes to the Lead Gen Ad question flow with the addition of dynamic questions aka conditional logic means it’ll be easier to use Lead Gen Ads for short surveys

Instagram

Twitter

Twitter released it’s algorithm for the world to see and this thread from Roawn Cheung has a pretty good summary of the nuggets you should know about

As you may know Twitter has brought back political ads– whether you should use them or not is a question only you can answer but if you choose to you’ll be happy to know that Keyword targeting has returned

Speaking of Twitter ads…if you’re going to run them then your Twitter account must be subscribed to Twitter Blue

Other Platforms

TikTok got banned in Montana effective Jan 2024– will it stand? Stay tuned as it works it’s way thru the courts

TikTok has added auto generation of captions for live streams

LinkedIn added an algorithm to it’s content serving methodology

LinkedIn now has a verified badge….and it’s free

LinkedIn has added a “values” search filter for job searchesTikTok still lets you upload a 10 minute video but you can no longer film it directly in TikTok itself

Substack Notes or in other words Substack tries to be a social media platform instead of a content platform

Artifact moves from a glorified RSS feed to social by adding in comments on articles and it now lets you follow specific writers

Mastodon is still a decentralized platform but it has changed the sign up work flow to default to everyone signing up to a central Mastodon run server while everyone continues to have the option to then switch servers whenever they wish

YouTube is now blocking ad blockers

Say good bye to YouTube Stories

WhatsApp now lets you edit messages within 15 minutes of sending

Don’t Try This At Home
