Political Social Grab Bag – November 2022

Political Social Grab Bag

What am I thinking about?

I’m thinking about 2 things:

1. Elon Musk and Twitter- for now we are not recommending anyone leave the site as we wait for things to shake out and see if our audiences leave the platform. We are not willing to just cede space to the opposition, and if the public conversation continues to happen there we need to be a part of that, just need to develop strategies to deal with the rest. (And yes that comes from a place of priviledge but there are an awful lot of folks who don’t have the priviledge of leaving and creating community on some other platform). Also, we are hearing a lot of folks talk about platforms like Discord & Mastadon which is well and good but they are not the same as Twitter and thus not an actual replacement.

2. 2022 is almost over so we are thinking about our 2023 training schedule. Check out our short preview in the Training section and if you have ideas for trainings you’d like to see or think your org might be interested in a private training now is the perfect time to reach out to us about that!

Important Note: It is expected that the Facebook Political Ad Ban will end Election Night at 1159pm Pacific time..BUT I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets extended in an environment of several still hotly contested races too close to call and/or rampant misinfo about said races. Check our Facebook page for any up to date info that is available about this.
